HELP Partnership - CHEW Project

12-Nov-2021

Shoutout to one of our HELP partners, The Community Health Empowerment & Wellness (CHEW) Project, for their kind words towards our team.

“HELP has become a strong community partner for CHEW. The team takes a client-centered approach, helping to remove barriers and to increase quality of life for individuals. CHEW has benefited greatly from this collaboration and it has strengthened our relationship with EPS." - Corey Wyness, Outreach Director

The positive collaboration between CHEW and EPS has and continues to grow in working with our 2SLGBTQ+ Community with multiple partners involved.  The HELP unit will continue to grow and foster these relationships moving forward.

What is CHEW?
The Community Health Empowerment & Wellness (CHEW) Project provides support and hope to 2SLGBTQ+ youth and emerging adults facing barriers of poverty, homelessness, substance use, mental health, and oppression. The OUTpost on Jasper Ave is a space of community and healing-centred engagement where youth can thrive.

CHEW provides many resources, including mental health supports, harm reduction services, social services, cultural connections, social activities, along with basic needs such as food, clothing, laundry and shower facilities, and more.

Although the CHEW project began in 2014, it did not fully evolve into the OUTpost until 2020. Prior to the OUTpost opening, CHEW operated as an outreach and sexual health initiative.
